Everyone 6 months of age and older needs a flu vaccine every year.

Flu is unpredictable. While flu spreads every year, the timing, severity, and length of the season varies from one year to another. Therefore, it is important to get your family vaccinated as soon as the flu vaccine becomes available in your community. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop protection against the flu.

Flu vaccines are made to protect against three or four different flu viruses (called "trivalent" or "quadrivalent" vaccines). This season both trivalent and quadrivalent influenza vaccines will be available. The vaccine is available in the form of a shot or the nasal spray. The nasal spray is for healthy people 2-49 years of age.
